Dear Madam, ladies, and gentlemen:
My name is William Prescott Perry. I suspect that my patriotism and zealous reverence for the Father of Our Country can be attributed to the fact I am a descendant of Col. William Prescott, a patriot whose distinguished service in the Continental Army under the command of General George Washington at the battle of Bunker Hill was such that it resulted in a statue that can be seen HERE.
Another member of the Prescott family, Samuel, left his mark on history in furtherance of the cause for America by completing the mission of Paul Revere and his fellow patriots. My passion for American liberty is, quite literally, in my DNA and I like to think their spirit for American independence from tyrannical and despotic government lives in me. And my definition of tyranny is based on that described by James Madison in Federalist 47.
Only recently, I became aware of Charlie and what he was all about. I thought to myself; “this is a man who I know would have the same passion for George Washington's farewell address as I do” for I am of the opinion he had never read it before because, if he had, he would have mentioned it along with the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution - and spoken of it at every possible opportunity.
The reason I say that is because in 1937, United States government published this book celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Constitution.
In the introduction, U.S. Constitution Sesquicentennial Commission Director General, the Honorable Sol Bloom, wrote; “Among the many valuable state papers of the nation, two are most intimately connected with the Constitution. These are The Declaration of Independence, which opened the way for it, and Washington’s Farewell Address on keeping in the path”
Repeat: “KEEPING IN THE PATH!”
Oh, how I wish I could have stood in front of a microphone public and talked to Charlie about keeping the United States Constitution “in the path!”
My parents raised me as a Christian and I was confirmed in the Episcopal Church. I have prayed to God and Jesus many times for help to help me help my country, but nothing has happened. And after reading Psalm 37, I figured that if there was a God, God was in another galaxy billions of light years away, creating new worlds far away - leaving us to be on our own - because after all those thousands of years, if God hasn't shown up by now, he/she/it isn't going to. Hence, I have abandoned my faith.
However, there is a certain passage from President Washington's final words to the American people in which he said
Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness--these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked, Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.
And what was it that President Trump said in his eulogy?
And we have to bring back religion to America because without borders, law and order and religion, you really don't have a country anymore. We want religion brought back to America. We want to bring God back into our beautiful USA like never before. We want God back. Charlie would've been so pleased to hear his friends and colleagues today giving testimony and giving glory to God.
Just so you know how serious I am about President Washington's farewell address, please note this letter from Dr. Richard Baker. United States Senate historian:
There is so much more I want to write. Do not want to throw too much out there, but I do hope you will assist me in my effort for passage of the GEORGE WASHINGTON FAREWELL ADDRESS, REVIVIFICATION AND PRESERVATION ACT.
I don't know how much attention to how much your staff is paying attention to the comments online, but I have been posting the following comments and image as much as possible and will continue to do so.
Charlie WAS -- and his name will forever be associated with -- an "institution for the general diffusion of knowledge" in accordance with the principles in George Washington's Farewell Address - as his mission was/is to ENLIGHTEN PUBLIC OPINION.
In memory of Charlie -- and in honor of the Father of Our Country -- and if you consider yourself a patriotic American, please read His Excellency's final words to the American people for posterity.
From President Andrew Jackson's Farewell Address :
“... the lessons contained in this invaluable legacy of Washington to his countrymen should be cherished in the heart of every citizen ... his paternal counsels would seem to be not merely the offspring of wisdom and foresight, but the voice of prophecy, foretelling events and warning us of the evil to come.”
Repeat: “PROPHECY...WARNING US OF THE EVIL TO COME”
Any questions?
