Open Letter: Erika Kirk and Turning Point USA

Dear Madam, ladies, and gentlemen:

My name is William Prescott Perry. At this juncture in my life, I have concluded that my patriotism and zealous reverence for the Father of Our Country and his final words to the American people and posterity -- literally, the DIRECTIONS for how to run the federal government and relate to other nations -- is attributable to the fact my distant namesake is Col. William Prescott, an early American patriot whose distinguished service in the Continental Army under the command of General George Washington was notable - particularly at the battle of Bunker Hill - was such that it resulted in a statue and obelisk HALF THE SIZE OF THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT and President Trump's recent executive proclamation in recognition of its 250th anniversary.

Another member of the Prescott family, Samuel, made an important - yet unfortunately under-recognized - mark on history in furtherance of the cause of America {which, according to Thomas Paine, was a cause for all mankind} was, AHEM;

 ... completing the mission of the legendary Paul Revere and his compatriots.

I have recently applied for membership in the National Society of Sons of the American Revolution and their representative has traced my ancestry to a Capt. Jeremiah Prescott of the New Hampshire militia. Membership is pending submission of certain documents.

Thus, my passion for American liberty is, therefore, quite literally, in my DNA and I like to think their spirit for American independence from tyrannical and despotic government lives in me. And, for the record, my definition of tyranny is based on that described by James Madison in Federalist 47.

Only recently, I became aware of Charlie and what he was all about. I thought to myself; “Good heavens, this is a man who I know has to have the same passion for George Washington and his final words to the American people as I do!” However, I am of the opinion he had never read it before for, if he had, he would have most certainly been talking about it along with the {AHEM} Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of at every -- repeat, EVERY -- possible opportunity.

The reason I say that is because in 1937, United States government published this book celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Constitution.

In its introduction, U.S. Constitution Sesquicentennial Commission Director General, the Honorable Sol Bloom {his name may have been at the bottom of the page, but he was THE MAN} wrote;

Among the many valuable state papers of the nation, two are most intimately connected with the Constitution. These are The Declaration of Independence, which opened the way for it, and Washington’s Farewell Address on keeping in the path

Repeat: “KEEPING IN THE PATH!”

Oh, how I wish I could have stood before a microphone in public and talked to Charlie about keeping the United States Constitution in the path!” Perhaps I may someday have the opportunity to do that with you.

My parents raised me as a Christian and I was confirmed as such in the National Cathedral. I have prayed to God and Jesus many times for their help to me help my country, but nothing -- repeat, NOTHING -- happened.

And after reading Psalm 37, I figured that if there was a god, "God" is either totally lame or must be in other galaxies billions of light years away, creating new worlds there - leaving us to be on our own because, after all these thousands of years, if "the Lord" hasn't shown up by now, he/she/it isn't going to. Hence, I abandoned my faith because evil apparently has the upper hand in this world.

However, there is a certain passage from President Washington's final words to the American people in which he said;

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness -- these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked, Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.

... and caused me to reflect upon Charlie saying that if people don't recognize God as great, then people direct their mind towards something else. He really got me to thinking about that document our Founding Fathers signed on 4 July 1776, referencing "our creator" who "endowed" us with "certain inalienable rights" -- "the Supreme Judge of the world" on whose protection they relied upon for "divine providence."

And what was it that President Trump said in his eulogy for Charlie?

And we have to bring back religion to America because without borders, law and order and religion, you really don't have a country anymore. We want religion brought back to America. We want to bring God back into our beautiful USA like never before. We want God back. Charlie would've been so pleased to hear his friends and colleagues today giving testimony and giving glory to God.

Yes, my inclination to restore my faith has been refreshed and have decided to pick up my Bible -- as I am still in possession of the one I was given at the time of my confirmation.

The brutal murder of your beloved Charlie and his sudden and unexpected transition into immortal martyrdom -- for which you have my deepest heartfelt condolences -- struck a nerve me and inspired me to resume my project and shift into overdrive.

Just so you know how serious I am about President Washington's farewell address, please note this letter from Dr. Richard Baker, United States Senate historian:

Sadly, after hand delivering letters to all 100 senators' offices asking for assistance in my project, Dr. Baker, a totally fine gentleman who was sympathetic for my cause, was the ONLY one on Capitol Hill who shared my enthusiasm for the most important words to come from the hand of the Father of Our Country

There is so much more I want to write. Do not want to throw too much out there, but I do hope that Turning Point may be interested in assisting my effort for passage of the

GEORGE WASHINGTON FAREWELL ADDRESS REVIVIFICATION AND PRESERVATION ACT

From there, His Excellency went on to say;

But if I may even flatter myself, that they may be productive of some partial benefit, some occasional good; that they may now & then recur to moderate the fury of party spirit, to warn against the mischiefs of foreign Intrigue, to guard against the Impostures of pretended patriotism -- this hope will be a full recompense for the solicitude for your welfare, by which they have been dictated.

I don't think it is too much to ask for his immortal words to "now and then recur" -- "to be productive of some partial benefit, some occasional good" once every four years in a joint session of Congress. How about you?

I don't know how much attention to how much your staff is paying attention to the comments online, but I have been posting the following and image as much as possible and will continue to do so:

Charlie WAS -- and his name will forever be associated with -- an "institution for the general diffusion of knowledge" in accordance with the principles in George Washington's Farewell Address - as his mission was/is to ENLIGHTEN PUBLIC OPINION.

In memory of Charlie -- and in honor of the Father of Our Country -- and if you consider yourself a patriotic American, please read His Excellency's final words to the American people for posterity.

From President Andrew Jackson's Farewell Address [an EQUALLY BRILLIANT national treasure that has been ignored by the Establishment which I have same passion to resurrect as I do President Washington's]:

... the lessons contained in this invaluable legacy of Washington to his countrymen should be cherished in the heart of every citizen ... his paternal counsels would seem to be not merely the offspring of wisdom and foresight, but the voice of prophecy, foretelling events and warning us of the evil to come.

Repeat: “PROPHECY...WARNING US OF THE EVIL TO COME

Any questions?

The reasoning behind my asking for your help with my George Washington Farewell Address Revivification and Preservation Project is also due to the fact that civics has been all but abandoned in schools and principles of the Founding Fathers only given cursory attention in American history classes.  This was confirmed by a friend who is a teacher in WV public school system. Her words were, and I copy/paste;

Many of my high school students are functionally illiterate. Theres no way they would even grasp the meaning of the founding fathers documents. We are living through Idiocracy.

Thus, I feel it is my duty to reach out to others to help me recover the principles which made American great in the first place. Please pay particular notice to Dr. Thompson's remarks at the American Institute of Civics centennial celebration of the farewell address.

One of my earliest memories as a little boy was then-President Kennedy asking "Us, the people," to ask ourselves what we could do for our country. After having read President Washington's Farewell Address, I figured the least I could do is to BRING GEORGE WASHINGTON BACK TO WASHINGTON and see to it that he stays there and can never again be brushed aside and ignored as he has been in the 20th century and this far into the 21st.

And I am of the opinion my proposed GEORGE WASHINGTON FAREWELL ADDRESS REVIVIFICATION AND PRESERVATION ACT, Item #1 of my Project Goals, may just be what our country needs to get our government back on to its foundation. I hope you agree.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Respectfully yours,

William Prescott Perry
